Vortex Strategy & Recruitment is actively seeking a Senior Manager, Human Resources and Talent for its client, a highly reputable international law firm based in downtown Montreal.
Working closely with local and national teams, the Senior Director, Human Resources and Talent is responsible for managing the Montreal HR team and supporting the Quebec offices. The incumbent acts as a strategic partner to practice groups and internal services, provides guidance to the team, and serves as an escalation point when needed.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Act as a strategic HR business partner to internal services in the Montreal and Quebec City offices, as well as to practice groups.
Manage the HR team and oversee key activities and processes, including: recruitment, onboarding and orientation, payroll, performance management, development, coaching, salary reviews, leaves, and departures.
Approve payroll activities for the Montreal office.
Work closely with the Managing Partners of the offices, the Legal Support Services Manager, and internal service leaders.
Oversee the day-to-day management of HR operations and program administration, including process efficiency and the maintenance, organization, and documentation of records.
Participate in the HR budgeting process with leadership to determine program needs.
Oversee departmental expense approvals and ensure adherence to the budget.
Support national and local HR initiatives and manage complex HR matters.
Plan wellness activities, social events, recognition programs, and social impact initiatives.
Act as the regional point of contact for all HR-related matters.
Participate in special projects and national initiatives, as required.
Requirements
Post-secondary degree in Business Administration or Human Resources; CHRP designation strongly preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of experience managing teams, ideally in professional services or a law firm.
Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
Experience with an HRIS (Workday) and strong proficiency in Microsoft 365.
Sound judgment, discretion, political acumen, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Bilingualism in French and English required.
