Director of finance
Job Description
Vortex Strategy & Recruitment is actively seeking a Director of Finance for our client, a fast-growing Quebec-based company located in Brossard, operating in the health and wellness sector.
Reporting to senior management, you will be responsible for the entire finance function for a multi-company group. You will be involved at both the strategic and operational levels, with strong day-to-day involvement.
Your Role and Responsibilities
• Lead the full budgeting cycle, from development to ongoing review, for all entities;
• Structure, model, and challenge budgets in collaboration with various departments;
• Ensure rigorous budget monitoring and produce in-depth variance analyses, with concrete and actionable recommendations;
• Drive financial performance with a constant focus on profitability, growth, and cost optimization;
• Produce and interpret financial information (consolidated financial statements, analyses, key performance indicators) to support business decisions;
• Oversee and actively participate in accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to deadlines;
• Manage a multi-company environment, including consolidation and intercompany billing mechanisms;
• Optimize cash flow management and maintain clear visibility on short- and medium-term liquidity;
• Implement and improve internal controls to secure operations and ensure data reliability;
• Collaborate with external partners (auditors, tax advisors) and ensure tax compliance;
• Conduct in-depth performance analysis and provide concrete recommendations, challenging existing practices when necessary;
• Lead and engage the accounting team, fostering their development and a culture of accountability;
• Continuously improve processes and tools with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach;
Requirements
• CPA designation (required);
• 7 years of experience in accounting/finance;
• Significant experience in a multi-company environment, including intercompany billing management;
• Proven experience managing complex budgets (multi-entity);
• Experience in retail (a strong asset);
• Strong understanding of financial operations, from accounting to analysis;
• Demonstrated ability to operate in both strategic and highly hands-on roles;
• Strong leadership and team management experience;
• Well-developed analytical mindset, intellectual curiosity, and ability to dig deeply into issues;
• Strong ability to challenge, structure, and improve existing practices;
• Excellent communication skills in both French and English;
