Vortex Strategy & Recruitment is actively seeking a Reviewer Lawyer for its client, an international law firm based in downtown Montreal.
The Linguistic Services team translates and reviews various documents for clients as well as for the firm’s business services. The Reviewer Lawyer works closely with the firm’s lawyers and clients and, to a lesser extent, with business services team members across the firm.
The Reviewer Lawyer reviews translations from a legal perspective in both French and English across various areas of law. This individual will act as a linguistic and legal expert and will review, revise, and occasionally translate specialized legal texts, such as commercial agreements as well as securities and capital markets documents. This person ensures consistency, precision, and legal accuracy while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Review, from a legal perspective, French and English translations prepared by the team for the firm’s clients and provide an opinion on the legal and financial aspects of the translation, if required, while meeting often tight deadlines
Provide feedback to translators and discuss it as needed
Manage complex client files, including:
Receive client requests and provide end-to-end service to clients throughout the lifecycle of files
Coordinate translation assignments with translators, editor-reviewers, and support staff through to delivery to clients
Communicate with external clients, printers, lawyers, and other stakeholders involved in files
Communicate with freelancers and external service providers
Take responsibility for decisions related to processes, legal terminology to be used, and budgets allocated to files
Serve as the point of contact for clients during the execution of their mandates
Bill fees in accordance with the pre-established budget
Requirements
Member of the Bar with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Reviewer Lawyer
Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, and securities
Relevant experience in a linguistic services department is an asset
Excellent command of French and English
Familiarity with AI platforms, CAT tools, and translation management systems (TMS) is an asset
