Vortex Strategy & Recruitment is actively seeking a Canadian Tax Partner for its client, a highly reputable and fast-growing provincial accounting firm based in Montreal. The firm has over 200 employees and continues to expand.
The Partner leads a variety of tax engagements requiring frequent interactions with peers and clients. They demonstrate proactivity and outstanding client service, placing great importance on stakeholder satisfaction by understanding their needs and striving to provide a positive experience. Their client-centric mindset is reflected in their initiative and willingness to anticipate needs, whether for internal clients, external clients, colleagues, or collaborators. They are a strong ambassador for the Firm.
The Partner is considered by clients as their main point of reference within the firm. They play an important and strategic role in understanding specific issues and executing engagements. They are committed and focused on completing mandates efficiently. They manage the engagement teams under their responsibility and also serve as a resource person for other teams they collaborate with. They are accountable for the optimal use of resources across their engagements.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Identify opportunities for estate or lifetime tax planning, structure optimization, or corporate reorganizations and ensure their implementation;
Support clients throughout the process of acquiring or selling a business in the context of family succession, key employee integration, or third-party sale;
Collaborate with other stakeholders such as internal firm services or external parties (legal advisors, financing stakeholders, etc.) in the context of business acquisitions or sales;
Draft instruction memorandums;
Demonstrate high-level technical expertise, allowing full autonomy in identifying and understanding nuances in applicable tax legislation and positions of tax authorities;
Maintain excellent knowledge of tax authority positions and case law;
Advance matters by pushing analyses to a higher level;
Communicate relevant concepts to stakeholders regarding specific issues;
Demonstrate strong collaboration with peers by sharing research findings and analyses;
Serve as a reference for technical expertise and sound judgment;
Provide solutions that translate theory into practical application;
Support team members in improving communications with a flawless approach toward stakeholders;
Ensure the team continuously communicates engagement progress (budget and timelines) and validates priorities with stakeholders;
Coordinate communications and lead stakeholders on complex engagements;
Participate in and lead training activities on complex topics, sharing knowledge;
Communicate exemplarily to project a positive image of the firm internally and externally;
Balance expectations and constraints of various stakeholders;
Manage client expectations and engagement constraints;
Ensure engagement profitability;
Monitor ongoing work, bill clients in a timely manner, and follow up on accounts receivable;
Meet firm expectations for the role regarding WIP adjustments, billing timelines, and collection of accounts receivable;
Generate engagement opportunities across the firm’s service lines;
Be recognized by clients as their primary point of contact within the firm and respond to both routine and complex needs;
Follow up on various engagements for assigned clients and remain alert to business development opportunities;
Leverage team members’ strengths;
Delegate effectively and promote delegation within the team;
Identify what should be delegated and what is transferable;
Recognize to whom to delegate and how to maintain control and accountability;
Properly plan files and ensure team members are adequately utilized.
Requirements
Master’s degree in taxation or completion of the In-Depth Tax Course (ICCA) or equivalent experience;
Professional designation required;
Proficiency with Taxprep software and CCH online research tools is essential;
Excellent French writing skills and strong ability to synthesize information.
