Job Description

Vortex Strategy & Recruitment is actively seeking an Audit and Assurance Partner for its client, a fast-growing accounting firm in Quebec.

The Partner will lead a variety of audit and assurance engagements with a high level of autonomy and strong client focus, standing out for their proactivity and the quality of the relationships they maintain with stakeholders. A trusted advisor to clients, they play a strategic role in understanding issues and ensuring the efficient execution of mandates. He or she will oversee and optimize resources while acting as a key resource for the teams. As the signing partner on various types of engagements, he or she will represent the firm with professionalism and commitment.

Your Role and Responsibilities

Planning

  • Plan engagements by optimizing team resources and meeting deadlines.

  • Set team priorities and serve as a reference for colleagues.

  • Participate in engagement and team management in a multi-engagement environment.

  • Foster a positive work environment by leveraging each individual’s strengths.

  • Approve budgets prepared by Directors, Senior Directors, and Senior Executive Directors, when applicable.

  • Lead engagement planning meetings and provide clear expectations to team members.

  • Approve the engagement project plan.

Supervision

  • Be available to answer team members’ questions throughout engagements.

  • Monitor engagement progress using available tools.

  • Analyze issues identified during engagements and make appropriate decisions to resolve them.

  • Ensure that changes during engagements are properly and promptly communicated to the client.

  • Review

  • Review work performed and related reports.

  • Resolve issues encountered during the review process.

  • Ensure compliance with the firm’s established engagement processes and procedures.

Budgets, Deadlines and Billing

  • Ensure that review notes are addressed in terms of quality and timeliness.

  • Clearly communicate budget expectations to the team prior to the engagement.

  • Communicate timelines and manage client expectations regarding deadlines and deliverables.

  • Ensure rigorous budget monitoring by the engagement manager.

  • Ensure that budget modifications and engagement changes are communicated to the client in a timely manner.

  • Ensure billing based on work progress or according to the agreed schedule with the client.

  • Make necessary decisions during engagements to resolve budget-related issues.

  • Manage time budgets and report any overruns to the engagement lead or client to obtain additional budget approval.

  • Be responsible for approving interim and final invoices (if applicable).

  • Guide and mentor Directors in engagement supervision, provide strategic direction, and intervene in resolving major issues requiring higher-level decision-making.

  • Ensure that overall and financial engagement objectives are achieved.

  • Ensure timely progress and completion of files.

  • Monitor engagement performance based on the firm’s established criteria.

  • Be responsible for tracking realization and billing metrics to ensure achievement of the firm’s objectives.

  • Post-Mortem Feedback Meetings

  • Supervise and guide feedback from all team members.

  • Provide feedback to Directors, Senior Directors, and Senior Executive Directors.

  • Lead strategic post-mortem meetings and ensure lessons learned are integrated into organizational practices.

  • Define strategic areas for improvement in engagements in collaboration with leadership teams, ensuring proposed solutions contribute to organizational performance and long-term objectives.

  • Validate proposed solutions, oversee their implementation, and evaluate their impact on overall organizational performance.

Team Professional Development and Training:

  • Provide coaching to team members.

  • Serve as a reference for members of the assurance team.

  • Participate in training sessions on complex topics, sometimes leading them and clearly communicating expertise.

Management of Review and Audit Engagements:

  • Demonstrate advanced and applied knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting standards for private enterprises, auditing standards, quality control standards, and tax competencies.

  • Be responsible for approving various sections of engagement files.

  • Be ultimately responsible for responding to review notes from the Quality Management Department.

  • Be ultimately responsible for approving and delivering financial statements.

  • Be ultimately responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable standards and procedures in accordance with firm and client expectations.

Business Development:

  • Participate in business development activities in line with the firm’s established objectives.

  • Be knowledgeable about all assurance-related services offered by the firm and able to discuss them with external stakeholders.

  • Identify new engagement opportunities for clients and propose tailored solutions.

  • Discuss engagement details and implications with clients while proposing an appropriate budget.

  • Approve service proposals.

  • Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;

  • CPA Auditor designation;

  • Seven or more years of experience within an accounting firm in similar roles;

  • Advanced knowledge of IFRS standards;

  • Knowledge of CaseWare/CaseView software;

  • Strong planning and organizational skills;

  • Analytical mindset, rigor, and strong attention to detail;

  • Ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
